Delhi Slut Walk - Views, Photos, Video

Delhi hosted the Slut walk or 'Besharmi Morcha' today outside Jantar Mantar today to to protest sexual violence against women who are victimised on the pretext of dressing up provocatively and thus "asking for it".

The History of Slut Walk
Slut Walks have become a global phenomenon to protest against sexual violence after a police officer Michael Sanguinetti, in Toronto this year caused outrage by stating during a speech to York university students that women should avoid "dressing like sluts" in order not to be victimized on January 24, 2011.

On April 3, 2011, over 3,000 gathered at Queen's Park (Toronto). The day began with speeches before moving to the Toronto Police Headquarters. Although the website requested women to dress in everyday wear (to symbolize ordinary women, sexually assaulted in ordinary life), many women dressed as "sluts" in provocative clothing.

It soon spread to other parts of the world and became a powerful feminist movement and India was not behind.

The Slut Walk in Delhi
The protesters gathered outside Jantar Mantar for the Slut Walk. There were hundreds who had gathered, but the media was probably 20% of the crowd, and Delhi Police another 10%. The actual participants were few. There was no provocative dressing as such. People held strong messages in their placards. And there was a significant participation from foreigners as well. There were slogans, speeches, placards and street plays. Overall it did not quite have the magnum of an impact that I was anticipating.

The View
I am not exactly a feminist but I do support the cause. There is not even a single woman who ever traveled in public transport and did not face some form of a sexual abuse and of course it is important to promote awareness that the way we dress has little to do with the way we're treated (most of the times). Most of us at some point of time have felt scared while walking on a lonely road even during the day, irrespective of what we're wearing. It is obviously bullshit that a rape has anything to do with what the victim is wearing. Of course we should wear whatever we like, but I would still not suggest walking in a mini skirt in while walking on a lonely stretch, it could just catch some unwanted attention. I know we have the basic sensibilities and we all worry about our security.

Though I support the cause but I do not quite believe that the demonstration is going to really change things, it will only help us in expressing our disgust about the fact that the Police who are supposed to protect us actually made that statement (which is also important). What would help is improving the security in the city (The Dhaula Kuan police station was shifted to RK Puram after so many incidents took place there and the police could not do much, why!). I believe the Delhi police are already trying hard and have come up with multiple helplines to aid women in trouble or distress, but we still need a little more may be..

Also, I think we should all keep these helpline numbers handy. I had something that I had stored in my cell and I am sharing those here.

Charice-One Day Official Music Video

Another one for Charice! Here is her latest music video One Day,I like to see Charice dancing in this video and the coolest thing about the song is that it is co-written by Nick Jonas! After Before It Explodes and Louder, One Day is Charice's 3rd single available now for digital download. I actually liked Louder better. What do you think of One Day?

Way Back Home Full Trailer

From their Mara Clara fame, Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes will grace the big screen, this movie will test the box-office appeal of their tandem. Star Cinema's Way Back Home is a family drama that tells the story of two sisters with a Mara Clara element. Watching the trailer makes me want to see this movie, not to mention that the theme song for this movie, You're My Home, is a very beautiful song. Although the story may look common, I know Star Cinema will give a different flavor into it. Playing Kathryn and Julia's love interests are Enrique Gil and Sam Concepcion. Albie Casino was cut from the movie and replaced by Enrique, Way Back Home also stars Agot Isidro, TonTon Guttierez, Lotlot deLeon and Aaron Villaflor. The potential top grosser, Way Back Home is directed by Jerry Sineneng and will open August 17th.

R.I.P-Amy Winehouse

Thursday, July 28, 2011

She is one very talented musician. Amy Winehouse is one of my fav'rite female singers, Amy(27) was found dead at her home in London on July 23, 2011.Her sudden death shocked many, including me. The cause of her death is "yet unexplained" but many believe that it's drug overdose. Amy suffered from substance addiction and her family was always there to save her. Amy's most successful album, Back to Black is one of my faves, especially the tracks like Tears Dry On Their Own and Valerie. When I heard the news I immediately checked on it if it was true, then I listened to her songs and watch her "I Told You I Was Trouble" concert DVD that same day to see my fav'rite Amy perform. Gone too soon, her talent will always be remembered. Watch one of my fav'rite song, Valerie, as Amy Winehouse performs it below.

How To Become a Makeup Artist

Monday, July 25, 2011
Being a makeup artist can be such a fun, rewarding career! It's so exciting to see your work posted in a major magazine, or to have someone so elated that you made them look so beautiful! There's also the excitement of doing a celebrity or behind the scenes of a runway show! So how do you become a makeup artist? Here are a few tips to help you with your journey:

1) Decide what type of makeup artist you want to become. There's so many directions for a makeup artist to go and the techniques and types of makeup required are very different. Sometimes it takes experience and time to really narrow this down but it's great to start with an idea. Here are some of the types: bridal, celebrity, television, film, theatre, fashion, body and face painting.

2) Build your artistry skills. This is extremely important because this is what is going to have people trust you and call you back for jobs. There are several ways to become a very skilled makeup artist. You can teach yourself through makeup books from famous makeup artists like Kevin Aucoin or Scott Barnes. You can also find your favorite artists on youtube and practice techniques on yourself and friends. There are some good makeup schools like the Makeup Designatory in New York and Los Angeles or less lessons from established makeup artists. You could start at a cosmetic counter and gain experience and product knowledge. Lastly you could assist a makeup artist that does great work.

3) Build your portfolio. Offer your services for trade with photographer who produce good work. In the beginning you may have to pay for the quality that you want if you are not getting to work with quality photographers. Seek every opportunity to build a great portfolio.

4) Market yourself. Be consistent with your marketing materials. The design of how your marketing material looks is very key as well. Make sure to make business cards, set up a site an/or a blog, and use social media networks such as facebook and twitter. You can have awesome work but if no one ever sees it, they will never know your talent.

5) Be professional. Always present yourself in a professional manner. The moment you walk out of the door you are promoting yourself starting with your appearance. Always be punctual and considerate of other's times. Be courteous and tactful with the people that you encounter as well. Remember that you are trying to build a good name for yourself.

6) Network, Network, Network. I can't begin to stress how important this is. Opportunities usually don't fall into your lap so so you have to seek them and reach out to the right people. Building healthy relationships with photographers, fellow makeup artists, hair stylists, model agencies, magazine editors and so far are very beneficial to advancing your career.

Check out this video and here a little bit of my story in becoming a makeup artist!

Two sides to a story - and I need a rest.

1) So, these are the final days 'til my last exam at university (unfortunately it's maths, a study course of no earthly use!!). I am pretty stressed out and totally bushed but I can't help it. The last two tests really got me down. I know I won't come out first in my exams but nevertheless I somehow wanna scrape through it. So, keep your fingers crossed for me.
###
2) Luckily, H&M produced relief. They sent me their new fashion catalog (F/W '11) which I flicked through immediately. They really were my last resort and cheered my up. Although I have to say that the collection is dull and autumnal as usal, they're some unique gems I definitely have to own!! The color palette ranges from ochre to sludge-colored and khaki - so nothing new. Every year it seems like going back to the roots, using the same colors and cuts over and over again. Seems like it's a matter of habit but actually the fashion goes with the seasonal mood which is why the colors are that sober. Well... it's acceptable.

But what bugs me the most is the fact that this summer is pretty wack!! I haven't yet worn my summer outfits - nevertheless H&M has already presented the new Fall/Winter collection. That sucks. Anyhow: Next week I am in VACATION!! I am really chuffed about going on holidays and get suntanned on Corfu. What about you? What's your holiday destination this year?
