Top 3 Budget Long Lasting Lip Colors (under Rs 500): Review, Photos, Swatches

Saturday, November 19, 2011
Yes, I am obsessed with 'long-lasting' things :) including in makeup. So here are my picks for the best 3 long lasting lip-colors around Rs 500 ($12).

Pick 1 - Colorbar Extra Durable Lip Color
I have reviewed this in detail here. Here are some excerpts. The shade here is 'Candid'.

Product Details
Range of Colors: There are 15 colors available. Mostly nudes and subtle shades and there is one bright pink.

Price: Rs 450 when I bought, but 500 now :(
Quantity: 4.5 ml X 2
With Gloss: Yes
With Applicator: Yes

The Texture: When you apply the color alone, it dries up within a minute. But once you apply the gloss, you would not feel any dryness at all. Infact feels quite creamy and moisturizing.

The Pigmentation: Quite good.

The Finish: Since it has gloss, so it gives a nice shiny and glossy finish to the lips with a little bit of shimmer.

The Staying Power: Yes, it does stay upto 10 hours. In fact in a couple of instances when I did not have anything, it stayed for even a longer time till I removed it. The gloss would wear off first, but the color stays on for a long long time.

Watch Out
After long hours, my lips start flaking and layers of color start coming off. This is after over 8 hours though, but is a bit of a problem.
Also shades are subtle colors, tough to find a bright one.

Pick 2 - Chambor Flowing Lipstick (Stay on Color with Shea Butter)
(The shade here is Innocent Rose)

Product Details
Range of Colors: A wide variety of gorgeous colors
Price: Rs 550
Quantity: 4 ml
With Gloss: No
With Applicator: Comes with a twisted brush (See pictures below)

The Texture: Soft, Creamy yet light on the lips

The Pigmentation: Very Good

The Finish: Since it does not come with a gloss, the finish is creamy and gives a matte look. You can always team it up with a gloss if you wish! I have a bright pink shade. It has a very subtle shimmer too.

The Staying Power: Excellent! Definitely lasts for over 7 hours

Watch Out
It tends to dry the lips without the gloss.

Pick 3 - Maybelline Super Stay Gloss
This was my first experiment with long lasting colors, and it was perfect. Maybelline is my favorite drug store brand since it gives you good quality products in reasonable prices. This lip color delivered what it promised - stayed for super long! I went for a second and then the third one, but that unfortunately had some leakage issues. The replacement that I got from Shoppers Stop also had leakage issues. And I have stayed away from it since then. But I won't mind trying it out once again.

They have a nice range of colors available including pink, nudes etc. Last I checked they were phasing this out and planning to introduce a 24 hr stay lip color. I somehow thought 12 hr was enough :)

Product Details
Range of Colors: There are some nice and bright colors available
Price: Rs 380
Quantity: 4.5 ml each
With Gloss: Yes
With Applicator: Yes

The Texture: Soft, and Creamy but gets a little sticky if you apply too much. You are supposed to apply the  gloss after the color dries up. Only that wait is a bit drying.

The Pigmentation: Very Good

The Finish: Glossy. Makes the lips look fuller.

The Staying Power: Excellent! It usually does not go until you remove it with a cleanser.

Watch Out
None, except the leakage thing mentioned above. It is great value for money.

And finally the swatches for Colorbar Candid, Chambor Innocent Rose ans Maybelline

Maybelline Watershine Liquid Diamonds: Swatches, Review and Photos

Friday, June 17, 2011

Maybelline Liquid Diamonds holds a rather special place in my heart because this was my first ever lip gloss!! It was some 5 years back I guess, when I went for lip gloss shopping with a friend. I wanted something nice but reasonably priced and I bought the 'Crystal Amethyst' shade. Actually at that point of time, there were only 2 shades and today there are 15! So you can very well understand this range got very popular and very soon. I loved this gloss and bought it 4 times again! Today I will be talking about another shade though, 'Berry Stars'. Let's read more.

Product Details
Range: Maybelline Watershine Liquid Diamonds
Product Category: Lip Gloss
Shade: Berry Stars
Other Shades: 15 pretty and perky shades available.
Price: Rs 180

As per the Maybelline website these are the reasons Why You’ll Love It

  • Glosses to give you the voluptuous dazzling lips you’ve always wanted
  • Hi-shine liquid format for perfectly supple brilliantly shiny lips
  • Available in 15 glamorous shades

The Color
The color actually is nowhere really close to the color of a 'berry'. It's more of a pinkish peach. Though it is difficult to describe the shade, it's a pretty one!

The Finish
Though the word 'berry' in the name of this shade is rather irrelevant, 'stars' make sense because of the super-shiny and shimmery finish it gives to the lips. In fact I wouldn't really be exaggerating if I call it a 'starry' finish! Yeah, it shimmers a lot, so much that I was hesitant about wearing it to office initially! Now I don't care.

I think it's the most shimmery shade in the entire range.

The Texture and Pigmentation
It has got a nice and creamy, non-sticky texture, along with a mild but pleasant fragrance. It's neither too thick, not too thin. It moisturizes the lips but the moisture obviously disappears when the gloss disappears.
Pigmentation is good too.

The Stay Power
This is a gloss and that too a non-sticky one, hence the lasting power is barely 1-2 hours if you don't eat! I wish it stayed a little longer though.

Application Ease
It comes with an applicator and is very easy to apply. And since the texture is neither thick nor too thin, it is very 'user-friendly'.

Why I love it
Affordable, pretty shades, nice texture

Recommendation
This is a very affordable yet cheerful range of lip glosses. Priced at Rs 180 only, I think it gives great value for money. There is also a nice range of colors to chose from. So I would definitely recommend this range. However, about this particular shade, I like the base color a lot, the pinkish peach. only wish it had a little less shimmer. No complaints about 'Crystal Amethyst' though!

Overall Rating: 4/5

Here are some other colors. BTW, beware of the website, the actual colors look very very different from what you see in the catalogue! I picked these pictures from the web.

The Invisible Blush: Maybelline Expert Wear 'Dusty Mauve' (Swatches, Review)

Sunday, May 15, 2011

This is a little strange because I had already posted this article, and then there was the blogspot outage and I lost this post!!! Suddenly I saw this in the 'draft' status in my list of posts, not the final post but may be the draft a just before posting. So I am putting this up again. I have lost on all the comments unfortunately, and there were quite a few! I don't know what happens to them :(

I wonder if you guys also faced something similar! And if you happen to remember your comments may be you could put them again :)

This was my first ever blush purchase. You may actually find it strange that I bought my first blush at the age of 28, but as I have stated earlier as well, make-up for me has been just about eye-liners and lipsticks for all this while..Here are the product details.

Product RangeMaybelline Expert Wear Blush
Shade: Dusty Mauve (50)
Price: Rs 209 for 4.5 gm
Claim: Oil free, Won't blog pores, Stay true color, Silky smooth texture

My Experience
Considering that I was buying a blush for the very first time, I wanted to make sure it was something not too colorful and close to my skin-tone. I picked this up from a drug-store and could not even check for swatches. And when I actually applied it, it was more than what I wanted it to be on my 'invisibility' parameter! It simply wouldn't show on my cheeks! It would show a very little shimmer in the day light, but there really was no color. It was the wrong shade that I had picked up for my skin color. Let's look at it a little more closely.

The Color/ Swatches
  • The color has a slightly whitish tinge, if you look at the swatch on the finger.
  • On my hand also you can see a light whitish shimmer, and that's about it. It shimmers in the sun but barely visible indoors.
  • The color is more appropriate for very fair skin, my mistake :(

Likes
  • Did not cause any break-outs.
  • Very easy on the pocket, so you can play with the other shades.
  • The texture is okay, not silky smooth but not too powdery either.
Dislikes
  • I know I picked up the wrong color, the color that simply does not show. But I do like the shimmer, just that expected a little more.
  • It has a whitish tinge, more appropriate for very fair skin, but I would have liked a pink tone.
  • The pigmentation is not strong, you have to really build it up through multiple strokes. Again a shimmery blush will always have a weaker pigmentation as compared to a matte one.
Will I repurchase?
I don't mind experimenting with one more shade like the 'potpurri' or 'apricot flush'. They have a range of colors.

Recommendation
This is a nice color for very fair skin and I will not recommend it for the average Indian complexion.

The Pink Lipsticks that I have: Swatches, Reviews, Photos

Saturday, March 12, 2011

That was a bit of my photography passion. Here is my passion for pink.
Earlier I thought pink was too perky for me and I would always go for browns. But then a friend convinced me that it was nice to add a bit of color to the face. And from then on, I have loved pink! And it's amazing how there can exist so many shades of just one color.

The Shades

1. Shy, Clinique Different Lipstick (A 10) - $14/ Rs 1025
2. Rose Petal, New York Color (NYC) (403B) - $2
3. Amorous, MAC Satin Lipstick (A 50) - $14.5/ Rs 990
4. Rose Jam, Maybelline Watershine (10) - Rs 220

Review

Shy, Clinique Different Lipstick
Love the color, have not used yet.

Rose Petal, New York Color

  • This was the result of my attempt to buy cheap cosmetics from NY. I got it from a drugstore and there was no tester.
  • The color turned out to be too bright. I used it in combination of other colors to tone it down.
  • Well pigmented but not creamy. Stays fairly long though.
  • Did not mind experimenting with $2 but won't try again :)

Amorous, MAC Satin Lipstick

  • I have reviewed this very thoroughly here. I love this lipstick and currently use it almost everyday.
  • Has a slightly purple tone.

Rose Jam, Maybelline Watershine

  • Till I got my MAC, I wore this regularly and as you can see, it's almost over!
  • Loved the color, bright pink but very wearable.
  • Added some kind of a glow to my lips. Very creamy and soft too.
  • But did not stay long as the product promised.
  • Also, did not wear away evenly,  left some pink patches on my lip.
